Manheim Edmonton Wants you to be informed of what is critically important when purchasing a vehicle on an “As is, where is” basis at a public auction. All vehicles in a Manheim Edmonton Public Auto Sale are subject to bid approval during our conditional process. Vehicles do have reserve pricing unless they are advertised as Unreserved. All Unreserved vehicles are sold to the highest bidder.
You are about to enter a very exciting venue where you can save Time and Money in purchasing your next car, light truck, ATV or recreational vehicle. However, there are a number of very important points and declarations to assist in helping make your auction purchase experience successful.
1) SPECTATOR: We would highly suggest that you attend two or three auction sales strictly as a spectator prior to participating as a purchaser. This will allow you to familiarize yourself with the pace of the auction and the various declarations and terms used by the auctioneer in the process. Most importantly, this will give you adequate opportunity to ask and receive clear answers for whatever questions you have prior to purchasing a vehicle, and a full understanding of your responsibility to all the terms and conditions of the sale.
2) TERMS & CONDITIONS (SALE): Please read, in entirety, all the terms and conditions of the bidder registration form and our auction hand out. If you have any questions, please inquire with the auction staff prior to participating in the bidding process.
3) REGISTRATION DEPOSIT: You will be required to submit a $1,000.00 auction bidder registration deposit. This deposit will allow you to obtain a bidder number. If you do not purchase an item at the auction your deposit will be refunded the same day. If a purchase is made, your deposit will be applied to the bill of sale. Caution: Prior to entering a bid please look over closely the vehicle you are interested in. Make sure it’s the type of transmission you want, or need first. Make sure it meets your requirements prior to bidding. DO NOT RUSH INTO ANYTHING. If you are successful in purchasing a vehicle, the auctioneer will read aloud your bidder number and you will be required to complete the purchase transaction. If you DO NOT complete the transaction (pay in full) your $1,000 deposit will be forfeited to the auctioneer. YOUR DEPOSIT WILL NOT BE RETURNED TO YOU.
4) THE AUCTION COMPANY DOES NOT OWN THE VEHICLES. The auction company is the agent only between the consignor (seller) and the bidder (buyer). We do not know the mechanical condition of the vehicles that are brought to the auction other than what we can determine by checking if the vehicle goes forward or backwards. We do not drive the vehicles any faster than 5 to 10 KMs an hour while on the auction site, so we have no opinion as to any vehicles condition other than what is obviously seen by all. We rely on the consignor to advise us if they have anything they want to declare to potential bidders regarding the vehicle they are selling. Some consignors may state deficiencies to us and we will then post this information in the hand outs, some consignors may not. The consignors are not obligated to make any declaration as they are selling their vehicle on an “As is, Where is” basis. “As Is, Where Is” can be defined as being in its present existing condition with no guarantees or warranties. Better said, “What you see is what you get”.
5) REPAIR BUDGET: It is important that you have additional monies set aside for any possible repairs that may be required on the vehicle you purchase. Do not spend all your money on a vehicle purchase without an allowance set aside for mechanical or maintenance repairs. Again, you are buying a used vehicle on an “As is, Where is” basis.
6) CARFAX CLAIMS REPORTS: Manheim Edmonton preforms a CarFax Claims report on every vehicle 1981 and newer. These reports contain collision history, IF ANY, or other useful information a bidder may appreciate. A Car Fax Car Report IS NOT a guarantee of the present existing mechanical condition of any vehicle you may purchase, however it does provide additional peace of mind and confidence in the auction process by providing an extra amount of transparency regarding the vehicles previous registration and collision history.
7) AUCTIONEER DECLARATIONS: The various declarations and announcements made by the auctioneer are very important for you to understand their meaning as you will be held responsible for having understood them once you have participated in the bidding process. Everything the Auctioneer says is recorded and available for playback in the office.
DECLARATIONS AND WHAT THEY WILL MEAN TO YOU
“ALBERTA REGISTERED” This means the vehicle being sold has been active in the Provincial Registry system. Once a vehicle with this status is purchased, you will then be able to visit an Alberta Registry with your auction sales agreement and proof of active insurance to complete the registration of your purchase. This does not mean the vehicle has been through any sort of vehicle inspection prior to being sold. It is possible there still remains a need for you to spend additional money on mechanical reconditioning. Eg. Vehicles that are older in vintage or model years, when sold with an “ALBERTA REGISTERED” declaration, may still require passing an inspection. Your insurance provider will inform you of the regulation and requirement needed to legally operate your purchase on public roadways. This remains your responsibility. Please Bid Accordingly!
“OUT OF PROVINCE” This means the vehicle being sold is from a province other than Alberta and HAS NOT been registered in the Province of Alberta. All “OUT OF PROVINCE” declared vehicles are required to pass an Alberta Out OF PROVINCE INSPECTION prior to being able to be registered in Alberta. The cost of the inspection certificate can be between $200.00 to $500.00 and this DOES NOT account for any of the repairs that may be required in order to make the vehicle compliant to pass the inspection. Vehicles that are older in vintage or model year, when sold with an “OUT OF PROVINCE” declaration, may require a considerable amount of mechanical reconditioning to pass an Out of Province Inspection. This remains your responsibility. Please Bid Accordingly!
“SALVAGE” This means the vehicle being sold has been deemed unfit for being driven on a road or highway in its current condition, due to being written off by an insurance company. This could be for numerous types of collision damage (frame, hail or water etc.) All “SALVAGE” declared vehicles are required to pass an Alberta SALVAGE INSPECTION prior to being able to be registered in Alberta. The cost of the inspection certificate can be between $200.00 to $500.00 and this DOES NOT account for any of the repairs that may be required in order to make the vehicle compliant to pass the “SALVAGE” inspection. Vehicles sold with a “SALVAGE” declaration may require a considerable amount of mechanical reconditioning to pass a salvage inspection. This remains your responsibility. Please Bid Accordingly!
“AS IS, WHERE IS” CAN BE DEFINED AS BEING IN ITS PRESENT EXISTING CONDITION WITH NO GUARANTEES OR WARRANTIES.
